Auction Results: Barrett-Jackson’s 2013 Reno sale

Barrett-Jackson held its first collector car auction in Reno, Nev., on Aug. 8-10, 2013. The sale was held alongside the massive Hot August Nights car show, which bills itself as the largest classic car and nostalgia event in the U.S., and attendance was correspondingly high as a result. Overall, 319 of 321 vehicles were sold for a total of $11.4M, including buyer’s commission.

Consignments ran the gamut, from 1930s customs to late-model Ferraris, with a notable presence of vintage trucks and SUVs. Attendance was strong throughout the weekend, and excitement was evident during the sale, especially for the charity-benefitting 2014 Shelby GT500 convertible, which sold for $500,000 on behalf of the Brain Injury Association of America. A frame-off restored fuelie 1963 Chevrolet Corvette convertible sold for an exceptionally strong $192,500, while an alloy-bodied 1950 Jaguar XK120 roadster was let go for $178,000. On the low end, a 1983 Mazda RX-7 traded early on Thursday for a mere $3,850, which seemed like a nice buy.
