The fastest police car in America is a truck

Ford’s 2021 F-150 Police Responder is the quickest factory-built cop car in the U.S.A. according to tests by Michigan State Police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

In the L.A. evaluation the F-150 did the quarter-mile in 14.4 seconds which was 0.4 seconds better than the next fastest, while Michigan clocked the F-150’s 0-60 mph at 5.4 seconds and its 0-100 mph at 13.1 seconds, which makes its 0.4 and 0.8 seconds respectively faster than the next best.

To borrow a quote from the Blues Brothers, “It’s got a cop motor, it’s got cop tires, cop suspension and cop shocks,” with further upgrades including more torque from the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine, and a new torque-on-demand transfer case for the 4×4 system which also transformed the handling, allowing the F-150 to go 5.8 seconds a lap faster around Michigan’s test track and 3.6 seconds quicker on the L.A. circuit.

“Vehicle acceleration and speed contribute to how quickly first responders can safely arrive at an emergency scene,” says Greg Ebel, Ford’s police vehicle brand manager. “Shaving even a few seconds off response times can make a big difference.”

America’s law enforcement also benefit from a few new technologies such as Blind Spot Monitoring and Cross-Traffic Alert, a 360-degree camera package to aid with towing (and stakeouts) plus over-the-air updates for the SYNC 4 system.
