Beverly Hills Tour d’Elegance kicks off Father’s Day cruise from the Petersen Museum

Beverly Hills had a 26-year streak of holding its Father’s Day Concours d’Elegance broken as 2020’s event was cancelled, just like most group events. For 2021, the city of Beverly Hills changed things up a bit for this year’s event. Rather than a static display, the show was turned into a tour that allowed for a socially distanced cruise to show off a tremendous variety of cars to spectators all along the way, all while supporting two good charities, the Beverly Hills Firefighters’ Association, and the Beverly Hills Police Officers Association, both non-profits the help first responders injured in the line of duty.

The show route, which meandered through six-plus miles of streets from the Petersen Automotive Museum to L.A.’s Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive, had hundreds of spectators, but they were scattered out all along the way. While those spectators got to see the cars roll by in all their glory and hear their engines purr, we got to the museum early to see them roll in. Matt Farah brought his Countach, and he was soon in good, exotic Italian company as a Bizzarrini Strada GT 5300 soon joined along with a wild 1970 Lancia Stratos Zero concept that awkwardly backed into a spot—that thing just wasn’t meant to drive in reverse.

A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, a 1960 Maserati Tipo 61 birdcage, and a Lamborghini Miura also proudly represented Italy. Jay Leno rolled up in a huge Hudson to shore up the beautiful domestic rides that included some Mopar muscle and Chris Mills’ 1959 Impala lowrider “Mothership.” The Big Oly Bronco, which spent some time on display at the Petersen, was also in attendance. Representing Hagerty, Aaron Robinson bought his 1933 Austin Seven, perhaps the lowest-powered vehicle on the cruise. Of course, on this tour, it did just as well as the slightly more performance-oriented British cars in attendance, like the McLaren Speedtail, Elva, and Senna.
