Welcome to Motorsports To Go! Each week, we will take a look at an upcoming event on MotorsportReg.com. We will tell you everything you need to know in order to participate. It’s the easiest way to get out of your recliner and into the driver’s seat. We’ll be covering everything from $25 autocrosses to million-dollar “gentlemen racer” opportunities, all of them explained in simple English via the same basic set of questions. Let’s get started!
What is it?Women’s Track Day at Monticello Motor Club — register at MotorsportReg.
Well, what is it? It’s a women’s-only trackday at the iconic and exclusive New York facility, led by drivers Christina Nielsen and Aurora Strauss.
When is it? June 28.
Where is it? Monticello Motor Club in New York
What’s it cost? $1,200 for one day.
What kind of car do I need? Any kind of car that is not designed to sit high (think truck, SUV, crossover). Find your tech form here.
What kind of personal equipment do I need? Drivers must wear full-length pants, long sleeve shirts made of natural fibres, no synthetics allowed except approved fire-resistant material. Shoes must be full-foot closed-toe and socks. Hiking type deep lugged soles are not acceptable. All car occupants must wear a Snell-approved helmet (SA, SAH, K, or M), which has the current (SA2015) available Snell rating or the one previous Snell rating. If it is a Snell K or M rated helmet, and the occupant is required to wear a driving suit, then the occupant must also wear a Nomex balaclava (head sock). All head and neck devices used in conjunction with 5- or 6-point harnesses must use SA2015 or newer HANS anchored helmets. Foam neck collars or ‘doughnuts’ are strictly prohibited.
How long will it take? All day
Will there be someone to answer my questions at the event? Absolutely.
Can I damage my car or get hurt? There’s not a lot to hit at Monticello, and speeds should be generally sane, so chances are low.
Why would I bother to do it? Some women are more comfortable on-track away from a mixed environment. This one’s for you!
What’s the hot setup, if I have time and money to prepare? Obviously, a hot-pink Viper ACR.
Give me two tips or tricks to really shine. Monticello is designed to be visually deceptive. A lot of it is faster than it looks. And if you start to lose control on the esses, just flatfoot through the grass. It’s worked for me!
