Study refutes Enzo Ferrari: The E-Type is not the most beautiful car in the world
Enzo Ferrari reportedly declared the Jaguar E-Type to be “the most beautiful car in the world.” Now, as the legendary British sports car celebrates 60 years, mathematics provides an opinion that Enzo would prefer.
According to a study by CarWow the Ferrari Monza SP1 is the world’s most beautiful car, if you judge it by using the so-called Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio is a math equation that determines the perfection of an object’s proportions. Artist Salvador Dali and architect Le Corbusier were both proponents of the theory and used it to great effect in their work. So, too, it seems, does Ferrari.
Carwow measured 14 different points on 100 cars from the last 70 years to draw their conclusion. The Monza SP1 came out with a winning score of 61.75 percent of its proportions aligning with the Golden Ratio. It was closely followed by the 1965 Ford GT40 on 61.64 percent and the 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC Speciale on 61.15 percent.
The remainder of the top ten comprised the 1975 Lotus Elite, 1962 Ferrari GTO, 1963 Chevrolet Corvette C2 Stingray, the 1967 Ferrari 330 P4, 1974 Alfa Romeo Alfetta, the 1966 Lamborghini Miura, and the 1969 Maserati Indy. The E-Type took 15th place on the list.
Take a closer look and you’ll note that the winning Monza is the only car built since the 1970s that made the top ten. More proof that classic cars are, nine times out of ten, more beautiful than modern machines. As if we really needed it.
No such thing as a 62 c2 corvette stingray. The c2 “stingray” was introduced in 63.
Very much so! I have addressed the typo.
This article is ridiculous! Since when does dimensional perfection equate beauty? My spouse is unbelievably gorgeous, but according tae the Golden Ratio, she is a Euclidean hot wee mess.
Definitely not the case.
The Monza is “attractive” but not the most beautiful car, not even close.
Alfa Romeo Montreal, Lamborghini Miura, Maserati Merak, Ferrari Roma, etc.. are all more beautiful.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
P.S. My wife is the most beautiful woman in the world to me.
