72-car barn-find sale is ripe with Mazda rotary power
A huge collection of cars up for sale on Facebook Marketplace includes a healthy dose of Mazda rotary power (and at least 100 lb-ft of torque, in total). The cars, located in Shreveport, Louisiana, are said to include Mazda’s pint-sized and sporty RX-3; unfortunately, however, the listing is light on photos.
We found the treasure trove thanks to a post on BarnFinds.com. The brief post mentions a 1970 RX-7 with only 1000 miles on the odometer … but there was no RX-7 in 1970, so perhaps it was a typo and there’s a 1980 RX-7 hiding somewhere with ridiculously low miles.
A wide shot showing dozens of dusty vehicles was enough to get our project-car radar pinging. Quite a few FB RX-7s are visible, including one wearing a widebody kit. Scrolling through the other shots reveals at least two FC RX-7s. The photographer also made sure to show off a decent example of Mazda’s short-lived rotary-powered pickup, the REPU. If you’re a car enthusiast, then we don’t have to remind you that rotary fanatics love these high-revving engines for their unique engine notes and high-rpm power delivery. A rotary mill is a natural fit for a lightweight sports car but a strange choice for a pickup. Still, the REPU has fans of its own.
The listing notes that there are 72 vehicles up for sale, but it appears that fewer than half were photographed.
The huge building houses more than just rotary-powered Mazdas. We can spot some Brits in there and a VW Beetle as well. How many other vehicles can you identify?
