2012 Dana Point Concours set to sparkle in Southern California
With show season off to a roaring start, one event to add to your “can’t-miss list” is the Dana Point Concours d’Elegance, the premier celebration of automotive heritage in Southern California, slated for June 23-24 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif.
This year’s concours will showcase more than 200 European and classics and 50 motorcycles, and features a “Legends of Le Mans: Racing in the ’60s” theme.
“We’re anticipating the 30th Annual Dana Point Concours d’Elegance to be the best event yet,” said Jeff Spellens, president of the 2012 Dana Point Concours. “Our team is working hard to host a fantastic celebration, honoring some of the best racers and race cars of our time. The 1960s were legendary in the automotive industry with names like Shelby, Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and Alfa Romeo, all competing to be the best in the world. We’re thrilled to honor their legacies by celebrating their history during the two-day event.”
Exhibitors will have the opportunity to compete in more than 30 different classes, including the Legends of Le Mans Race Car class, commemorating the historic 1960s race car era. The concours will also introduce a Shelby Cars class to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Shelby American Inc. as well as a Ducati class for vintage motorcycles.
General Admission tickets are $30 and gates open at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Related events include an unforgettable private collection tour on Saturday, and the Beach Cruisers Car Show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sea Terrace Park in Dana Point.
