Welcome to Motorsports To Go! Each week, we will take a look at an upcoming event on MotorsportReg.com. We will tell you everything you need to know in order to participate. It’s the easiest way to get out of your recliner and into the driver’s seat. We’ll be covering everything from $25 autocrosses to million-dollar “gentlemen racer” opportunities, all of them explained in simple English via the same basic set of questions. Let’s get started!
What is it? Alfa Romeo Owners (AROSC) Drivers’ School — register at MotorsportReg.
Well, what is it? It’s a couple of events in one! Novice drivers can learn some track driving techniques, while aspiring racers can practice starts and learn racecraft.
Where is it? The Streets Of Willow road course in Willow Springs, CA
What’s it cost? $299
What kind of car do I need? Most cars will qualify, from completely stock road cars to fully kitted-out race cars. For more detailed information, read the club site.
What kind of personal equipment do I need? A Snell 2010 or newer helmet — this includes Snell “M” helmets. Leather or Nomex gloves, with no holes. Natural fiber clothing extending from neck to wrist & ankles.
How long will it take? All day!
Will there be someone to answer my questions at the event? Yes. The Alfa Club offers outstanding help and advice for drivers of all cars, not just Alfas.
Can I damage my car or get hurt? You can. Streets of Willow has a lot of places to damage a car. You’ll want to pay close attention to your instructors and make sure you don’t get the “red mist” once you’re on track.
Why would I bother to do it? This is one of the most affordable ways to get good, solid help and advice from experienced drivers on a classic California race track.
What’s the hot setup, if I have time and money to prepare? The truly prepared participant would take delivery of a new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan right before the event; it’s a lovely way to travel very quickly in absolute comfort. Or you could indulge your inner Hoffman and find a nice Sixties droptop.
Give me two tips or tricks to really shine. Bring more water than you think you’ll need; it’s easy to become dehydrated behind the wheel. Spend the next couple of weeks looking as far down the road as you can during normal street driving. It will really pay off.
