Bugatti boss Winkelmann to return to Lamborghini

Following the departure of Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali to Formula 1, Stephan Winkelmann is set to return to Sant’Agata to take charge. According to a report in Car magazine Winkelmann will split his time between Bugatti, where he will remain as president, and Lamborghini, where he will be CEO.

Winkelmann previously ran Lamborghini between 2005 and 2016, overseeing the launch of the Aventador and Huracán, and steering the company in a new, more profitable direction by developing the Urus SUV. At Bugatti he unveiled the Divo, Centodieci, La Voiture Noire, and the new Bolide, plus a range of limited-run Chirons.

It is widely believed that VW wishes to go public with Lamborghini in 2022, spinning it off from the VAG mothership. Putting Winkelmann behind the wheel will, no doubt, give the markets confidence to invest.

The question we’re all wondering, of course, is whether Winkelmann travel the 400 miles between Molsheim, France and Sant’Agata, Italy by Bugatti or Lamborghini.
