Get ready for 7 spicy Hyundais by 2022’s end, including an Elantra N
We’re good pals with the delightfully capable 2020 Veloster N. We’ve just met the medium-hot 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line, a 290-hp midsizer that, while it does pack a host of suspension and brake upgrades, essentially basks in the Veloster N’s halo. In the next two years, we’re about to meet a whole host of vehicles from Hyundai’s N performance division.
The Elantra N Line, together with the Veloster N and Sonata N Line, will round out the first three installments of an N-flavored lineup that will total seven performance-oriented vehicles by the end of 2022.
Don’t expect all seven of these models to possess the Veloster’s degree of on-track prowess, though. Hyundai’s promising three “purist” N models—full-fledged performance variants—and four lesser N Line models. (Think BMW M versus M Sport, or RS versus S in Audi-speak.)
The next two hotted-up installments in Hyundai’s lineup will be the Elantra N sedan, shown here in camouflaged form, and the Tuscon N Line. Working with Hyundai’s math, that leaves one more full-bore N offering and one fairly sporty N Line model unaccounted for.
Which N model will join the Veloster and Elantra? It’s probably an SUV. Hyundai’s corporate literature bears two red-draped SUV-shaped blobs, which means the likely—though less exciting—candidates are the Palisade, Venue, Santa Fe, and/or Kona. One will join the “exciting, heart-charging” ranks of the Veloster and Elantra N, and another will, in N Line guise, gain a dose of agility and performance.
Exciting things are happening at Hyundai, and we can’t wait to test these model’s real-world chops.
