Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

A muscle car legend was born when Plymouth debuted the completely redesigned E-Body Barracuda for the 1970 model year. Measuring five inches shorter than the Challenger with which it shared a chassis, the all-new Barracuda was initially available in three varieties: the standard Barracuda, luxury Grand Coupe, or high-performance ‘Cuda. Also offered for the 1970 model year only was the All-American Racing (AAR) ‘Cuda – a one-off variant built to homologate the small-block V8 engine for racing use in the SCCA Trans-Am series. Americans Dan Gurney and his protegee Swede Savage campaigned three Chrysler-sponsored Plymouth 'Cudas constructed by Gurney's All American Racers in the 1970 Trans-Am Championship, powered by 440-horsepower, 305 cu-in V8s. Production versions of the racer received a 340 cu-in V8 topped with a “Six Pack” triple two-barrel carburetor setup and rated at 290 horsepower. The AAR also boasted numerous cosmetic and aerodynamic differences from the standard ‘Cuda including a matte black-finished fiberglass hood with a functional fresh-air scoop, distinctive “strobe” side graphics, and a unique ducktail spoiler. Only 2,724 AAR 'Cudas were built in total, making this track-influenced ‘Cuda a very rare and significant piece of muscle car history.

Jerry Ferguson, a member of the United States Navy and a co-founder of Biomet Inc., a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of musculoskeletal orthopedic implants and products, was known for his entrepreneurial drive and generosity. He was also an enthusiast of all things 1950s, from music to automobiles. Pursuing his love affair with the automobile, in 1984 Ferguson established the Classic Car Centre of Warsaw, Indiana, a company dedicated to the acquisition and restoration of mid-century American Classics. In operation until his return to Biomet in 1993, today Hagerty Marketplace is proud to offer The Ferguson Collection, comprising the long-hidden remaining inventory and personal collection of Jerry Ferguson.
