Description

Introduced at the 1965 Geneva International Motor Show, the Fiat 850 Spider and Coupe transformed the compact family car underpinnings into a racy sports car. The cars were terrific entries into the sports car world, offering outstanding handling thanks to their rear-engine layout. When launched, both body styles were equipped with an 843 cc engine rated at 47 horsepower but were soon upgraded in 1968 with a 903 cc inline-four rated at 52 horsepower in addition to other minor styling updates at the same time. A true sales hit with over 2.3 million Fiat 850s of all variants sold, with the wonderfully racey 850 Spiders being among the rarest, with only 140,000 sold over a seven-year period. Today, the 850 Spiders are sought after by collectors for their finely penned Bertone bodies perfectly blended with outstanding open-air driving characteristics.

Highlights

  • Powered by a 903 cc inline-four-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission

  • Finished in Porsche Chrome Yellow over a black vinyl interior

  • The engine and transaxle are said to have been overhauled under previous ownership by Midwest-Bayless Italian Auto of Columbus, Ohio

  • Upgraded engine performance thanks to a Weber 34 ICH carburetor from Pierce Manifolds, with the standard Weber 30 DIC included in the sale

  • Maintenance work by the previous owner included replacing the brake master cylinder, brake lines, rotors, calipers, shock absorbers, and Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires

  • Under previous ownership, the soft top, seat covers, and carpet were replaced

  • Please note that while the five-digit odometer displays just under 88,000 miles at the time of listing, the true mileage is unknown
