Description
Introduced at the 1965 Geneva International Motor Show, the Fiat 850 Spider and Coupe transformed the compact family car underpinnings into a racy sports car. The cars were terrific entries into the sports car world, offering outstanding handling thanks to their rear-engine layout. When launched, both body styles were equipped with an 843 cc engine rated at 47 horsepower but were soon upgraded in 1968 with a 903 cc inline-four rated at 52 horsepower in addition to other minor styling updates at the same time. A true sales hit with over 2.3 million Fiat 850s of all variants sold, with the wonderfully racey 850 Spiders being among the rarest, with only 140,000 sold over a seven-year period. Today, the 850 Spiders are sought after by collectors for their finely penned Bertone bodies perfectly blended with outstanding open-air driving characteristics.
