2007 Porsche Cayman
Description
The sales success of the Porsche 993 and Boxster in the mid-1990s was the financial and reputational savior the Stuttgart-based marquee needed amidst an aging product line and skyrocketing production costs. A few short years later, the affordable, well-balanced sports car segment that the Boxster had helped define had grown increasingly competitive. Porsche’s answer was dubbed the Cayman, a svelte, fixed-roof version of the Boxster with the practical addition of a clamshell rear hatch. The base model debuted in July 2006 using a 2.7-liter version of the company’s venerable flat-six, now equipped with Porsche’s variable intake valve timing and lift system (VarioCam Plus) for an output of 245 horsepower and 201 lb-ft of torque. Praised at launch for its mid-engined dynamics and agile steering characteristics, the Cayman continues to be an excellent entry point into Porsche ownership.
