18k-Mile 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce Five-Speed
Description
Officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966 as simply the Alfa Romeo Spider 1600, the open-topped two-seater closely resembled the sweeping Alfa Romeo Superflow in its design – which would undergo numerous styling changes over its nearly 30 years in production. Series 1 cars (1966-1969) featured the mechanicals from the 105-Series Giulia sedan, including its twin-cam inline-four engine in 1.6 and later 1.8 liters. Numerous styling changes appeared on Series 2 cars (1970-1981), with the Spider’s distinctive “boat tail” revised to a Kamm tail for improved luggage space along with another boost in displacement to 2.0 liters. Series 3 (1982-1989) Spiders brought further aesthetic tweaks including rubber bumpers and a new rear spoiler, while North American models also received Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. The final, Series 4 iteration (1990-1993) of the long-running Spider arrived on North American shores in 1991, bringing full-width body-colored plastic bumpers, full-width rear taillights, Bosch Motronic fuel injection, power steering, and a driver’s airbag among other refinements. Thanks to its incredible production lifespan and continual development, Spiders maintain a reliable network of owner's clubs and parts suppliers, making them an ideal way to experience classic open-air motoring.
