2016 Mercedes AMG GT S Ride Along Video
Description
Introduced in 2015 for the 2016 model year, the AMG GT and GT S variants were slated as the replacement for the SLS AMG featuring the same front mid-engine layout with a transaxle mounted in the rear. Equipped with a more powerful engine and additionally available technology packages, the AMG GT S features a carbon fiber-clad interior that envelops the driver showing off the long hood reminiscent of vintage cars of similar caliber. The AMG GT S provides all of the expected performance of a Mercedes grand tourer with the then-new 4.0-liter Biturbo V8, utilizing a hot V layout of the turbochargers. Placing the twin-scroll turbochargers between the pistons rather than outside the V, significantly decreases turbo lag and engine footprint. The performance of the engine is complemented by dual-wishbone suspension with electronically adjustable coil-over dampers. The transaxle layout ensures an impressive 47:53 front-to-rear weight distribution. In typical Mercedes fashion, this exact split was calculated to be the dynamically ideal ratio.
This 2016 AMG GT S is finished in the classic Mercedes Black paint on the accompanying Red Pepper Nappa leather interior. The red motif is carried on externally, with red accents throughout the air ducts, spoiler, and four-piston carbon ceramic brakes. With the likely impending end of gasoline-powered sports cars, the AMG GT models - especially GT S - are beginning to look like quite the prime choice for enthusiasts looking to get their hands on what could be one of the last of the great V8 performance cars.
