Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The introduction of the "R129" generation of Mercedes-Benz SL was a monumental occasion, marking the first significant redesign of the model in almost two decades and the design that would reach into the next century. The 500 SL boasted a technically advanced 32 valve light alloy V8 engine with variable valve timing. It was also the first Mercedes production engine to generate in excess of 300 horsepower - 322 to be precise. The car was engineered to be much more than a sports car - it was a fully accomplished automobile that expertly blended style, performance, and safety. The power-folding soft top was a remarkable new feature, adding to the car's already impressive list of innovations. The 500 SL was a testament to the idea that safety and sports performance could coexist, featuring a sophisticated safety chassis, an automatically or manually deployed roll bar, and a magnesium seat frame with an integral height-adjustable three-point seat belt.
This car is part of the George Foreman Collection, which comprises over 50 cars from the 1930s through today, with a focus on American classics and late-model sports cars.

Bidders are encouraged to review the Additional Documents section of each lot for any recent mechanical service rendered to help return certain vehicles to running condition. Additionally, bidders should carefully review the photos of each lot in the collection, which may highlight the oxidation of metal components certain vehicles sustained as the result of a garage fire caused by a golf cart battery in March 2019. Although none of the vehicles sustained fire damage from the fire itself, the negative cosmetic effects of the corrosive soot vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle and can be observed in the photo
