Description
The Type 2 Transporter, also known as the Microbus, was an iconic model from the Volkswagen lineup that came in various body styles such as a commercial panel van, single or double cab pickup truck, and passenger microbus in both standard and deluxe trim levels. By the 1960s, these air-cooled Volkswagens had become ingrained in Southern California's laid-back lifestyle and were used around the world as practical and dependable transportation for a variety of reasons. Motor Trend magazine described the Microbus as "more of a way of life than just another car..." Type 2s became a significant part of the So-Cal surfing culture, as well as the hippie counterculture. While Flower Power eventually faded, the popularity of air-cooled VWs spread throughout the continental US and Hawaii and continues with a devout worldwide collector fanbase to this day. This particular Microbus has been restored to be a wonderfully useable classic finished in period-correct Velvet Green and Pearl White. When production of this example was completed in Germany, it was originally specified as an eight or nine-passenger van. However, it has since been upgraded to its current camper specification, allowing for weekend excursions with its rear bench seats and built-in ice box.
