1959 Edsel Corsair Convertible
Description
The Edsel Corsair benefitted from a raft of styling updates, mainly to the front, for 1959. The “horsecollar” vertical grille assembly was revamped with a fine bar pattern. The Corsair became the top-tier model in the Edsel range, replacing the Citation, which now shared its body panels with the Ranger, with the two models differentiated by trim and options. Additionally, the Corsair now included four-door sedan and convertible versions, with the entire series riding on a 120-inch wheelbase. The cars were equipped with the 332 cu-in “Express” V8 engine, which came standard with a three-speed manual transmission. The Teletouch automatic transmission was replaced with the Mile-O-Matic automatic for 1959. Overall, these updates and improvements were designed to appeal to a discerning audience of automotive experts, making the Corsair a standout model in the Edsel range.
