Description

The Fiat 500, or Cinquecento, was more than Italy’s answer to the Volkswagen Beetle – it was built as a charming small-family car that embodied post-war Italian optimism. A descendant of the pre-war Fiat Topolino, the 1957 500 Nuova (New) was even smaller, with only a 72 inch wheelbase and just 13 horsepower from its 479 cc inline-two cylinder engine. A series of revisions and upgrades followed over the next two decades, including the 500 Lusso (Luxury) in 1968 – a richly trimmed and better-appointed version of the base 500 F. Model-specific details included a unique trapezoidal instrument bins unlike the round unit found on other 500 models, a black plastic steering wheel with metal spokes, revised interior door panels with pockets, and carpeted floor mats. This particular 1970 Fiat 500 L was recently the subject of a comprehensive rotisserie restoration completed in Sicily in March 2023. Restoration highlights include a new Rosso Corsa exterior finish, a re-trimmed white vinyl interior with contrasting red piping, and a transmission rebuild, as well as an engine upgrade to 650 cc as per the consignor. Offered in freshly-restored and fully road-legal condition, this lovely 500 L is ready sure to receive smiles and positive attention wherever it goes.
