Description
One of the most visible honors in all of motorsports is to serve as the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500. No car has held the position more often than America’s Sports Car, the Chevrolet Corvette, which has set the pace at the 500-mile race in Indianapolis no fewer than nineteen times since 1978. Most years, Chevrolet has recognized the selection by making available to the public a limited-production replica, finished in identical colors and trim to the Pace Car. For 1998 the package included a finish in Radar Blue (also referenced on the window sticker as “Pace Car Purple Metallic”) with a yellow and black leather interior and bright yellow wheels, as well as a yellow graphics package with a checkered flag motif. Ordering the Indy colors also equipped one’s car with the Delco electronically tuned AM/FM radio with automatic tone control and CD player, Bose speaker system, electronic dual-zone heating and air conditioning, dual-power leather adjustable sport bucket seats with memory, and special floor mats. These were the first Corvettes equipped with the new Active Handling system, which utilizes a yaw sensor, steering angle sensor, lateral accelerometer, and other advanced features to enhance handling and help avoid accidents. Only 1,163 of the Pace Car Corvette replicas were produced, sold to the public by selected Chevrolet dealers.
"We told the designers we wanted something that would grab people immediately, and they didn't disappoint us." - Chevrolet General Manager, John Middlebrook

Ownership History
The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report indicated that this collectible 1998 Corvette Pace Car was first sold in Ohio and remained with the owner for 12 years selling to another Ohio-based owner with just 66 miles on the odometer. In 2014 it changed hands again, selling to a Louisiana-based owner. Today, this Indianapolis 500 Pace Car is offered with just 70 miles and many of its original delivery items and is likely one of the most original, lowest mileage examples on the market today.
