Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Hailed as the “brightest star of Pontiac’s line,” the Star Chief series entered its second generation for the 1955 model year wearing its trademark “Silver Streak” design. It sat on a 124 inch wheelbase – the longest offered by Pontiac – and debuted Pontiac’s overhead-valve V8 engine under the hood. Overnight, the Star Chief’s engine jumped from a 118 horsepower six-cylinder and 127 horsepower straight-eight to the 180 horsepower “Strato Streak” V8, which would grow to 270 horsepower by 1957. The Star Chief was offered as a four-door Sedan, a Convertible, a Catalina two-door hardtop, and a Safari station wagon in either Deluxe or Custom trim. Today, the Star Chief remains an enticing alternative to the more common Chevrolet Bel Air and a charming throwback to mid-century motoring.

Jerry Ferguson, a member of the United States Navy and a co-founder of Biomet Inc., a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of musculoskeletal orthopedic implants and products, was known for his entrepreneurial drive and generosity. He was also an enthusiast of all things 1950s, from music to automobiles. Pursuing his love affair with the automobile, in 1984 Ferguson established the Classic Car Centre of Warsaw, Indiana, a company dedicated to the acquisition and restoration of mid-century American Classics. In operation until his return to Biomet in 1993, today Hagerty Marketplace is proud to offer The Ferguson Collection, comprising the long-hidden remaining inventory and personal collection of Jerry Ferguson.
