Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Drawing on the restrained styling of the Pinin Farina-designed 1960 Eldorado Brougham, the seventh-generation Cadillac Sixty-Two was shorter, squarer, and more angular for 1961. The new Series Sixty-Two was overall leaner-looking than its excessive, heavy predecessors thanks to slimmer pillars, a raked non-wrap-around windshield, and lower, more subdued tail fins at the rear. Body styles remained virtually the same with six and four-window four-door sedans, a two-door coupe, and a convertible available, all being powered by the venerable 390 cu-in overhead-valve Cadillac V8 delivering 325 horsepower. The new Series Sixty-Two had all of the luxurious appointments buyers had come to expect from Cadillac in spades with power brakes, power steering, and a Hydra-Matic transmission as standard. Today, well-optioned, nicely restored examples of the Sixty-Two Convertible remain some of the most luxurious vehicles on the road today, sought after for their attractive styling and commanding road presence.

Jerry Ferguson, a member of the United States Navy and a co-founder of Biomet Inc., a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of musculoskeletal orthopedic implants and products, was known for his entrepreneurial drive and generosity. He was also an enthusiast of all things 1950s, from music to automobiles. Pursuing his love affair with the automobile, in 1984 Ferguson established the Classic Car Centre of Warsaw, Indiana, a company dedicated to the acquisition and restoration of mid-century American Classics. In operation until his return to Biomet in 1993, today Hagerty Marketplace is proud to offer The Ferguson Collection, comprising the long-hidden remaining inventory and personal collection of Jerry Ferguson.
