1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 Convertible Ride Along Video
Description
Hot on the heels of the Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac launched their sporting Firebird in early 1967. It increased the in-house competition at GM and, perhaps more importantly, provided a direct competitor to the Ford Mustang. While the Firebird had similar body lines to the Camaro, it featured a better integrated front bumper and “slit” rear tail lights, which were similar to those seen on other Pontiac models of the era. A variety of engines were available to power the Firebird, from a 230 cu-in overhead cam six-cylinder all the way to the fiery top-of-the-line 400 cu-in V8. There was also a selection of several automatic and manual transmissions depending on engine choice. Today these early Firebirds, especially well-documented, original examples like this, represent the purest design with its iconic split front grille with sleekly integrated bumpers.

Ownership History
According to the original vehicle sales invoice, this Firebird 400 Convertible was sold new through Early Pontiac of Ruston, Louisiana on 24 May 1967 to Homer Woodard. Contained within the history file available to review in the Additional Documents section, is a letter dated 9 June 1994 from the second owner Dan Powell who had the car restored in Torch Red, during which the odometer was reset to zero.
Since then, it was most recently owned by a Californian for approximately five years before trading hands in February 2019. In May of that year, the new owner elected to drive this Firebird 400 Convertible home to the East Coast making it as far as Austin, Texas before the engine began to suffer from roller lifter failure. The car was towed to JFrazar Sports Car Services of Savannah, Georgia for engine inspection and disassembly. Please see the Additional Documents section for information regarding the engine rebuild, ancillary repairs, and restorative work completed at the time. The exterior and cosmetics appear in very much the same impressive condition as it did then, with just over 2,000 miles added to the odometer since the 2019 sale, with the car noted by the consignor to be, “One of the best Firebirds I have ever driven."
Optional vehicle service contract available for $1,450. Learn more about the program here. *Sales tax may be applicable.
