1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Start Up
Description
Known around the world for their legendary reliability, versatility, and all-terrain prowess, it's fair to say Toyota Land Cruisers are one of the single most universally loved 4x4 vehicles ever built. What began as Japan’s effort to clone the U.S. military Jeep later became Toyota’s best-selling model in America with importation of the J40 series beginning in 1963. Cosmetically, the FJ remained largely the same during its twenty-year production and was offered in various wheelbases and utility configurations, with a selection of straight-four and six-cylinder gas and diesel engines. Development over its long production cycle saw the introduction of front disc brakes, power steering, and more freeway-friendly gearing in the U.S. before production ended in most markets in 1984. Despite their reputation as rugged, no-frills off-roaders, FJ40s are regarded as highly collectible and have become frequent subjects of highly detailed restorations. This FJ40 is no exception, having been treated to an authentic restoration and stored in a garage since its completion.
