Description
After the successful fifteen-year run of the fourth-generation Corvette, GM released the most radically redesigned version of America’s sports car since its inception in 1953. The new C5 was stiffer and lighter than the previous generation C4 due to the innovative use of hydroformed frame rails. It also featured a transaxle that improved not only the weight distribution but also increased interior space. Other new features included a drive-by-wire throttle and a variable effort power steering system, but most notably, the C5 would introduce the world to the now legendary all-aluminum “LS” V8 engine. All of these changes created a sports car that was innovative in construction, comfortable, and, most importantly, a true performer.
While a stock Corvette might satisfy many enthusiasts, some owners demand more performance from their cars, such as with this 2002 Corvette Convertible. The previous owner significantly increased the performance by adding approximately 50% more horsepower courtesy of a new 427 cu-in twin turbo V8. Additional modifications were performed to aid in transforming this power into a potent performer. It continues the Corvette's legacy of offering an exhilarating driving experience, solidifying its place as America’s sports car icon.
