Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Offered between 1985 and 1997, the Bentley Turbo R was a long-lived and powerful Bentley sedan known for all of the sumptuous features one would expect from the most storied English luxury automotive manufacturers. The "R" stood for "Roadholding," with the new Turbo R sporting retuned suspension and wider tires on aluminum alloy wheels. While on offer around the world since 1985, it wasn't until 1989 that the Turbo R would make its debut in the United States. By that time, the Turbo R saw significant updates including anti-lock brakes and new Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection along with slimmer sport seats, twin round headlights, and a larger front spoiler. Listed with an MSRP of $167,400 — the equivalent of $366,330 today — the 6.75-liter turbo V8 had the performance to back its prodigious price with Motor Trend estimating its power output at 296 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque. Naturally, Bentley outfitted the interior in all manner of appropriate materials befitting the luxury manufacturer. The electronically heated front sports-style seats were covered in Connolly leather, the lower areas in Wilton wool carpeting. The cockpit-like dash featured a rich burl walnut veneer with a full suite of instrumentation. Perhaps Bentley’s own marketing materials put it best by saying, “Its supremacy is worn with consummate modesty.”
