1956 Mercury Custom Convertible
Description
For the 1956 model year, the Mercury Custom underwent some slight modifications, yet the most notable transformation was the inclusion of the 312cu-in V8 engine. In addition to the larger engine, a significant alteration was made to the front suspension of the car, which resulted in a smoother ride for passengers. The Custom trim was available in two different models - a convertible and a four-door hardtop sedan. Both models were popular with the public, and the car's new 12 volt electrical system allowed for the inclusion of more comfort features, further enhancing the driving experience. 1956 was the final year for the Mercury Custom, as the company restructured its product lineup for the following year. While Mercury sold nearly 330,000 cars in 1956, the Custom Convertible is by far the rarest, with only 2,311 produced, making examples such as this a rare sight on the roads today.
