1937 Cord 812 SC Phaeton
Description
Penned by the renowned automotive designer Gordon M. Buehrig and his team of highly skilled stylists, the Cord 810 and later Cord 812 were a luxury offering from the Cord Corporation particularly well-known for its forward-thinking design and innovative features. As a subsidiary of the mighty Auburn Automobile Company established by E.L. Cord, the Cord 812 would feature front-wheel drive, independent front suspension, hideaway headlights, and a four-speed Bendix preselected transmission. Commonly referred to as a “baby Duesenberg” due to this impressive list of luxurious advanced features, the Cord Corporation would follow suit with their Duesenberg cousins and begin offering an optional supercharger for 1937 increasing the output of the Lycoming engine to 170 horsepower, a figure many Lycoming employees would object to, claiming figures closer to 195 horsepower. Remaining highly coveted for its distinctive design and innovative features, the Cord 812 can be found at some of the world’s most desirable automotive events where it is appreciated by countless Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg enthusiasts across the globe.
