1936 Packard One-Twenty Business Coupe Walk-Around
Description
After saving Packard from the depths of the Great Depression, the One Twenty series was upgraded in 1936 to 1936 Packard One-Twenty Business Coupe specification and continued to sell in record numbers. The One Twenty adopted several innovative mechanical features that were not yet available in Packard’s larger models, including independent front suspension, dubbed “Safe-T-Flex” and hydraulic brakes. The model was available in eight different coachwork styles, including the sporty two-door business coupe, of which the featured car is a particularly desirable example. The 120 B upgrade increased the output on the inline-eight L-Head engine to 120 horsepower, this allowed the Packard to reach a top speed of 89 miles per hour, an impressive feat with 1930’s technology. In addition to the larger engine, the 120 B was also refined through the use of a new circular radiator, accelerator linkage, shift mechanism, and coil springs. The Packard 120 B is capable, even on modern roads, able to achieve cruising speeds of 60 miles per hour with relative ease; its 4.09:1 gear ratio allows the Packard to keep up with highway traffic. Outwardly the 1936 120 B received larger bumpers with guards and did away the suicide front doors in favor of conventional front-hinging units. This 1936 Packard 120 B is offered in period-correct Packard Cream on its period-correct Brown cloth interior and would make an excellent candidate for display at any impromptu Sunday morning car show or local concours.

Ownership History
Research indicates that this 1936 Packard 120 B was originally purchased in Rhode Island. According to the current owner, the car was previously owned by a private collection in Virginia and in 2015 it was sold to the owner prior to the current consignor based in New York. During this previous ownership period the owner, rebuilt the transmission, installed front end struts including the hydraulic brakes, added new front shocks, and rebuilt the steering box. In addition, new shift rods, a new fuel tank, a new water pump gasket with thermostat, five new tires, new hubcaps, and new window regulators were added along with a tune-up. The current owner purchased the car in June of 2021 and since has installed a new fuel sending unit, an electric fuel pump, and a voltage regulator.
