35K-Mile 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL
Description
The Mercedes SL line boasts a rich legacy as one of the most successful convertible series to grace the roads. The R107 model, in particular, stands out as the most popular SL ever to reach American shores, with more than half of its sales originating from the US market. This success is easily understood. Despite the challenges posed by an oil crisis, Mercedes undertook the development of the new 380 SL, featuring a 3.8-liter iteration of the renowned Mercedes "M116" V8. This masterpiece of reliability played a pivotal role in securing victories for rallying versions in some of the toughest cross-continent endurance races worldwide. The robust M116 engine is complemented by one of the most dependable transmissions crafted by Mercedes-Benz, known for its unique ability to be push-started when transitioning from neutral to the second drive position. This 1985 model of the 380 SL showcases Mercedes' iconic Champagne exterior paired with a stylish Palomino MB-Tex interior. The visually striking combination is further enhanced by a fully removable hardtop, offering the option for an enjoyable, sun-soaked weekend drive.
