Description

By 1987, the 911's future as a model was assured within Porsche's lineup. Throughout the mid-1980s, gradual improvements began to trickle in for the 3.2-liter 911 Carrera: integrated fog lights in 1984, an updated interior in 1986, and by 1987, the new and much improved G50 transmission was introduced. Porsche engineers are loath to stand still! However, there are aspects of the 911 Porsche that would never change. It was still very much a hand-built sports car as was the case upon introduction as the 901 in 1964. Direct steering feel, world-class braking, and, of course, the raspy, metallic engine note of the famous air-cooled flat-six remained. In fact, the combination of both old and new mark the late 1980s Carrera 3.2s (with Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa body styles) as the most accessible, yet classic, generation of the timeless Porsche 911.

Ownership History

Built in January 1987, this 1987 Porsche 911 Targa was first sold through Carlsen Porsche on the 11th of April that year. Purchased by the consignor from a San Jose, California Porsche dealer in 1989, this 911 Carrera Targa has been under continuous ownership since then. The consignor notes that it has been sparingly used since then as a weekend “fun” car and has been driven very little over the past decade.
