Description
It’s hard to believe Carroll Shelby only built 998 Shelby Cobras in the 1960s, and of those just 655 in the early 260- and 289-powered leaf-spring versions, most with a slab-sided body without racing fender flares. Such rarity results in genuine Cobras costing a true fortune—but there is an alternative.
No mere kit car, the MKII Slab Side is a sanctioned continuation of the original Shelby Cobra 289 MkII that first appeared in 1962, built in an exclusive agreement with Carroll Shelby and is uniquely a licensed Shelby product. Just like the original AC Cars-built Cobras, the MKII Slab Side is based on the same John Tojeiro-designed round tube chassis design and features the correct transverse leaf spring suspension to give owners an exceptionally authentic driving experience. For this reason, Bloomberg called the MKII Slab Side “…vintage Shelby heaven — minus the headache.”
This Superformance MKII Slab Side was built in 2019 using a Ford Racing Boss 302 crate engine backed by a Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission. Authentic details abound such as period-correct Stewart Warner gauges and original style Dayton wire wheels, offering the 289 Cobra experience — without costing a fortune.
