Description
Continuous improvement is expected at Porsche. Changes made to their cars are incremental, rooted in engineering progress, and typically without unnecessary modification. The all-new 996-generation 911 that debuted in 1999, however, featured changes made to the headlight design altered simply for their novel appearance. The integration of the front turn signals, and accessory lights into the headlight design changed 50 years of ellipsoid shape headlight tradition, beginning with the first 356. Porsche purists were not pleased. The subsequent retreat by Porsche was swift, with a curved radius added to the bottom edge in 2001 exclusively for the Turbo.
By 2005, Porsche smartly returned to the traditional headlight shape with the new 997 generation 911. The result was that the 997 was certain to be a sure-fire styling and engineering success, one that returned to traditional 911 looks and, in usual Porsche tradition, featured a raft of under-the-skin improvements throughout. This Triple Black 997.2-generation Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is no exception. Ordered with the rapid-fire Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission and a bevy of additional options, the 997.2 remains the sweet spot of modern Porsche without the heft of later models.
