Description
Known by some as the “luxury Corvette,” the Cadillac XLR entered the market in 2004 as the brand’s flagship two-seat convertible offering, based on the C6 Corvette’s rear-wheel drive chassis. Borrowing the scalpel-sharp body lines previewed by the 1999 Evoq concept car, it was arguably the purest application of the “Art & Science” design language that made it to Cadillac showrooms.
The XLR’s low, sleek profile was also enhanced by the touch of a button, which prompted its power-folding hardtop to completely disappear. Inside, the XLR was a departure from the Corvette’s plastic furnishings with an interior swathed in sumptuous hides, anodized aluminum, or eucalyptus wood. Smooth power and seamless shifts were delivered by a 320 horsepower Northstar V8 paired with either a five or six-speed automatic transmission, giving the XLR superb driving characteristics to match its luxurious ambiance.
