Description
Unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2004 and entering production in February 2005, the Aston Martin DB9 Volante is a distinguished convertible variant of the DB9 coupe. Designed for safety and comfort, the Volante includes reinforced windshield pillars and deployable rollover hoops that activate in a rollover. Its suspension features softer springs and lighter anti-roll bars for a refined ride quality. The folding fabric roof opens in just seventeen seconds, allowing for seamless transitions between closed and open-air driving. Despite its additional weight compared to the coupe, the Volante maintains the DB9’s elegant design and high performance, offering a luxurious driving experience.
Produced at Aston Martin’s new Gaydon headquarters in Warwickshire, the DB9 is the first model built at this high-tech facility. Aston Martin developed the DB9 from the ground up, avoiding adaptations of existing platforms to ensure no compromises in styling or weight. Instead, it features a lightweight, aerospace-specification bonded aluminum structure known as the ‘VH’ (Vertical Horizontal) platform. This structure provides exceptional rigidity, enhancing handling, driver feedback, and safety, and is crucial to the DB9’s nimbleness and overall character.
