2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S Six-Speed Tubi Exhaust Revving
Description
Porsche has a culture of continuous improvement, with most changes made to their cars being incremental and based on engineering progress. However, the 996-generation 911, launched in 1999, had a headlight design that was changed simply for its innovative appearance. The innovative design integrated the front turn signals and accessory lights into the headlight, breaking away from the traditional ellipsoid shape headlight that had been used for 50 years, starting from the first 356. This change did not sit well with Porsche purists, who were not pleased with the unconventional design. Porsche responded promptly by adding a curved radius to the bottom edge in 2001 exclusively for the Turbo. By 2005, Porsche had reverted to the traditional headlight shape with the new 997-generation 911. The 997 was a success, featuring both the traditional 911 look and a host of under-the-skin improvements, as is typical of Porsche.
