2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe Six-Speed
Description
Porsche's 996 generation, produced from 1997 to 2004, marked a significant departure from previous 911 models by introducing water-cooled engines that replaced the traditional air-cooled units — a change driven by the need for better emissions control and improved performance. The 996 also featured a redesigned body, which was more aerodynamic and modern compared to its predecessors.
Introduced in 2002, the 911 Carrera 4S combined elements from the Carrera 4 and Turbo models, creating a unique blend of performance and style. The 4S was equipped with a 3.6-liter flat-six engine, producing 320 horsepower, which could be paired with either a six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The car's all-wheel-drive system provided enhanced traction and stability, making the Carrera 4S a versatile performer in various driving conditions.
The Carrera 4S featured a wider body, borrowed from the Turbo model, which gave it a more aggressive stance. It was also equipped with larger brake discs and calipers compared to the standard Carrera models and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) for improved handling. Inside, the 4S offered a luxurious and sporty environment, with high-quality materials and advanced features.

Ownership History
The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report places this six-owner 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S in Illinois, Minnesota, and North Dakota. It was purchased new on 18 December 2003 in Monticello, Illinois, and its Minneapolis consignor has owned it since November 2019. "I discovered this 2004 Porsche 996 4S while pursuing the purchase of a different 911. It was being offered under consignment. It was (and is) in exceptional condition; I ended up buying it — I had to! Having owned a Porsche for 23 years, I was familiar with different specialty shops and many members of our local Porsche community. One of the shops I frequent had done the pre-sale inspection on this car and was familiar with the owner. The previous owner, subsequent to the inspection, purchased the car and completed an IMS repair and replaced the clutch (37,749 miles). At the time I purchased it (38,269 miles), the owner had driven less than 600 miles on the new bearing and clutch."
