Description
“Imagine if Formula One engineers built a sports car. Well, they did.” Car and Driver
The Honda S2000, introduced in 1999, was designed as a modern take on the classic roadster concept, inspired by Honda's “S” roadsters of the 1960s. It featured a 1,997 cc inline four-cylinder engine with dual overhead cams and Honda's variable valve timing system, VTEC, producing 240 horsepower and 153 lb-ft of torque – making it the most powerful naturally aspirated engine relative to displacement at the time. Equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and a Torsen limited-slip differential as standard, the nimble roadster was acclaimed for its predictable handling and ideal 50/50 weight distribution.
The S2000’s looks and performance rivaled that of the BMW Z3 and Porsche Boxster all while paired with Honda's legendary reliability. And although driving dynamics were top priority, Honda didn’t neglect the creature comforts, including a stereo, power steering, and a power-operated top as standard – allowing the driver to take full advantage of the exhaust note at the 8,900-rpm redline. The S2000 has become a bonafide modern classic since its discontinuation in 2009, with well-preserved examples like this blue over blue final model year “AP1” harder to find by the day.
