2003 Ferrari 360 Modena Ride Along
Description
As Ferrari entered a new millennium, a clean-sheet design was deemed necessary to establish a basis for a future generation of Ferrari road cars. Debuting at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, the 360 was 40 percent stronger in structural rigidity than the F355 it replaced thanks to an all-aluminum space-frame chassis developed in collaboration with Alcoa. It was also more powerful, and visible under the glass rear decklid was a heavily revised 3.6-liter “Tipo F131” V8 producing 400 horsepower with a wailing 8500-rpm redline, paired with either an F1-style automated manual transmission with paddle shifters or the traditional gated six-speed manual transmission, good for 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Inside the 360's spacious interior could accommodate a set of golf clubs behind the seats. Finally, the 360 Modena was styled by Goran Popović at Pininfarina, his design embracing more fluid and aerodynamic lines that have become the look of modern Ferrari.
As Car and Driver magazine reported in 2000, “Apart from the quickness of the controls, and the relentlessly exhilarating noises, it’s surprisingly easy to live with…. What we have here is a machine that never stops expressing itself. And in no case does it whisper.”
