4k-Mile 2001 Pontiac Trans Am Firehawk 10th Anniversary Six-Speed
Description
“Rocketing down the back straight at Road Atlanta, the speedometer buried deep in never-never land, you recall the first of the High-Performance Ten Commandments: Thou can never have too much horsepower.” The October 1991 issue of Hi Performance Pontiac magazine was experiencing something new: “The Firehawk has landed.”
From 1991 to the last Gen4 Firebird built in 2002, Street Legal Performance (SLP) transformed Firebirds. SLP Canada took Formula and Trans Am Firebirds right from the GM’s Ste-Thérèse, Canada, plant and added a new twin-nostril “functional cold air induction” hood into a low-restriction intake system using a Corvette airbox and filter. A slightly stiffer front anti-roll bar was added, creating a little more understeer to balance the increased power. Shorter lower rear control arms and a new Panhard rod were mounted in stiffer bushings to reduce wheel hop under hard acceleration. Five-spoke 17x9.0-inch Ronal aluminum wheels were wrapped with, what else, 275/40ZR17 Firestone Firehawk SZ tires. Finally, SLP installed Firehawk logos and attached a serial-number plate to the ashtray lid.
SLP celebrated ten years of the Firehawk with a special model in 2001. This 10th Anniversary edition is number 43 of 139 produced, showing just 3,909 miles from new.
