2001 BMW Z8 Start Up
Description
Britain’s Autocar magazine concluded after a thorough road test of the BMW Z8, “Hard to think of a surer recipe for success.”
The Z8 pays homage to the iconic 1956 BMW 507 designed by Count Albrecht von Goertz with its chromed side vents and horizontal front grilles. The Z8's stunning design was created by the Danish designer Henrik Fisker, who had already worked on some of the company's most beloved models of that period. It has an all-aluminum chassis, seats for two, and is powered by BMW's "S62" 4.9-liter V8 engine. The S62, which is also used in the M5 of that period, provides the Z8 with plenty of power and excitement—with 395 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and a weight of just under 3,500 pounds, it can go from zero to sixty miles per hour in just over four seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. However, the Z8 was built for more than just speed, with a rigid chassis that has almost perfect weight distribution, and a sumptuous Nappa leather interior—a true Ultimate Driving Machine.
