1962 Jaguar Mk II 3.8 Walk-Around
Description
Modifications to Jaguar’s first small saloon of unitary construction – the 1955 Mark I – resulted in what most consider to be the best-looking, quintessential Jaguar saloon. Mark II of 1959 improved upon the Mark I design with a larger greenhouse, bigger side and rear windows, a wider rear track that did away with the full fender skirts, a new grille, and integrated fog lamps. The interior remained a thing of beauty, with a walnut veneer dash, Smiths instrumentation repositioned in front of the driver, a row of toggle switches, and supple leather seats. The 2.4 and 3.4-liter versions of the “XK” inline-six engine were joined by Jaguar’s biggest offering at the time - the 3.8-liter XK six-cylinder producing 220 horsepower and capable of a 125 mph top speed. The Mark II’s centerpiece, however, was its Dunlop disc brakes derived from those on the 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning 1953 Jaguar C-Type. With performance better than most sports cars of the day and the practicality of a saloon, the Mark II set the standard for its class and today remains highly sought after by Jaguar enthusiasts. Refinished in elegant white, this 1962 Jaguar Mark II was subject to a sympathetic cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment and now presents as a splendid numbers-matching example.
