1956 Cadillac Series Sixty Two Coupe Deville
Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Series Sixty-Two of Cadillac lineup had a wide range of appeal, favored by bankers and rock-and-roll stars alike as a status symbol of wealth and prestige. The Series Sixty-Two represented the top of the line for all of General Motors, and as a result, saw cutting-edge technology for the time. Features such as air conditioning, power windows, power seats, and Autotronic Eye – a proprietary General Motors system that automatically dimmed the high beams when oncoming cars were detected – added to the futurism of the Jet Age car. The 1956 Coupe de Ville in particular saw many visual improvements from the previous model year; new slip-stream rear fenders and grille assembly all contributed to distinguishing it from the standard Sixty-Two, and the upgraded styling cues would go on to define American automotive design for the remainder of the decade. The innovations for 1956 were not limited to the design, as the Cadillac V8 grew to 365 cu-in and gained an additional 35 horsepower as a result, which was paired with a smoother shifting four-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. Fine examples like the one offered here continue to exude the panache and quality that established Cadillac as the foremost builder of quality cars in the United States.
Jerry Ferguson, a member of the United States Navy and a co-founder of Biomet Inc., a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of musculoskeletal orthopedic implants and products, was known for his entrepreneurial drive and generosity. He was also an enthusiast of all things 1950s, from music to automobiles. Pursuing his love affair with the automobile, in 1984 Ferguson established the Classic Car Centre of Warsaw, Indiana, a company dedicated to the acquisition and restoration of mid-century American Classics. In operation until his return to Biomet in 1993, today Hagerty Marketplace is proud to offer The Ferguson Collection, comprising the long-hidden remaining inventory and personal collection of Jerry Ferguson.
