Description
It took 30 years for the Nissan Skyline GT-R to evolve from humble beginnings to the twin-turbo, all-wheel-drive monster you see here. Certainly no one eyeing that first-generation sedan at the 1969 Tokyo Motor Show would have believed the R34’s performance: 4.8 seconds to 60 and 13 flat in the quarter mile, for those willing to brave the GT-R’s neck-snapping launch. Factor in over .90g of lateral grip and a 60 to 0 stop of only 120 feet—wearing 1990s tires—and the legendary R34 might as well have been from another world.
The 1990s were the golden age of Japanese Domestic Market performance, with Supras and NSXs lurking. The fifth-generation GT-R successfully battled those beasts with only a 2.6-liter engine. The secret was an ingenious, electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system that prioritized rear-wheel drive until traction was needed up front. And when the road got curvy, a clever four-wheel steering system kept the driver in control.
The GT-R was so dominant on the track and the street that it was nicknamed “Godzilla.” And because very few were legally imported to America before they were 25 years old, they are incredibly rare in the U.S.
This right-hand-drive, 1999 R34 GT-R Series 1 wears the desirable V-Spec trim with a firmer suspension, front and rear diffusers, brake ducts, and an upgraded all-wheel drive system. And the engine, suspension, and interior have been lightly modified for improved performance. This is a rare opportunity to put Godzilla in your garage.
