Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Introduced in the fall of 1989, the Mazda MX-5 Miata seemingly came out of nowhere, and suddenly it was everywhere you looked. By 1999 the hidden headlights of earlier Miatas were gone, which shaved 12 pounds, and flairs appeared over the tires and at the top of the tail. Many enthusiasts loved it, as 17,738 MX-5 Miatas were sold in the U.S. that year alone.
Mazda decided to commemorate ten years of Miata success with a limited-edition 10th Anniversary model featuring a unique Sapphire Blue Mica exterior, complemented by a blue cloth top and a black leather interior with blue synthetic-suede seat inserts. A unique 10th Anniversary Edition Nardi blue/black leather steering wheel and shift knob were also part of the package. It was equipped with nearly every factory option, including a new six-speed manual transmission, which was a first for the Miata, and boasted a sports suspension with Bilstein shocks, Torsen differential, and a front strut-tower brace.
Mazda produced 7,500 units of this special edition, with 3,000 allocated to the United States. As Car and Driver said of the 10th Anniversary Miata, “It's on those days when you can flip the top back and head out to nowhere in particular that the Miata demonstrates its substantial worth.”
