1999 Land Rover Discovery II Cold Start

1999 Land Rover Discovery II Interior Viewing
Description
“The most civilized way to get rough.” That was Land Rover’s pitch in 1999 as it introduced the all-new Discovery Series II, a modernized evolution of its trail-tested SUV, built to handle both African backroads and American school runs with equal ease. Though it carried over the familiar boxy shape, nearly every component was reengineered, making this more than just a refresh — it was a transformation.
Launched exclusively for the 1999 model year, the Series II featured a wider track and longer wheelbase, translating to improved handling and a more composed ride. Land Rover’s new Hill Descent Control debuted here, helping drivers navigate steep terrain with confidence, while revised suspension geometry and an available Active Cornering Enhancement system brought newfound civility to its famously rugged personality.
Inside, the Discovery II offered an upgraded interior with better ergonomics, improved materials, and optional third-row seating. Standard features included dual airbags, four-wheel ABS, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system. All models were powered by a 4.0-liter V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, with full-time four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case for off-road duty.
As the gateway to the modern Land Rover experience, the 1999 Discovery Series II blended go-anywhere engineering with upscale appointments — a true British 4x4 that felt equally at home in the Outback or the suburbs.

Ownership History
According to the accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this two-owner 1999 Land Rover Discovery Series II was purchased new on 15 March 1999 in California and has remained there. Its current owner purchased the vehicle in January 2002 with 46,578 miles, and it has been garage kept ever since. “The front-end damage (in 2017) happened on a freeway ramp when a wheel cover came flying at us. To avoid it, we swerved and hit a flexible/bendable sign, which resulted in a small, barely noticeable crack in the plastic bumper. Since we have always babied the car, we opted to replace the bumper with a brand new one. As for the 2008 rear-end damage, it was a low-impact event. The superb repair was done at a high-end shop, and we have the receipt with the details.”
