Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The fourth generation of Firebird introduced in 1993 sadly was the last one for this iconic pony car. The famous Trans Am and Formula models returned and the WS6 performance package, which included a “Ram Air” hood, different tailpipes, tighter suspension, and available Bilstein shocks, was much sought after. The most significant visual update came in 1998, which included a facelift that gave the car a new hood and front fascia, and the aluminum LS1 V8 engine from the C5 Corvette, which was lighter and more powerful than the LT-series engines it replaced. As Pontiac explained in its 1998 brochure, “The Ram Air system does what its name implies, force-feeding the LS1 the oxygen it needs to produce 320 horsepower at 5,200 гpm.” A 2000 Motor Trend test of a WS6 found that the car could go from zero to 60 mph in five seconds flat, the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds, and pull 0.84 g on the skid pad.
The 2002 model year would be the last for the Firebird, and this highly original, single-owner, 48,585-mile 1998 Formula WS6 Coupe shows us what we’ve been missing ever since.
