1998 Infiniti Q45 Driving POV
Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Arriving in fall 1989 alongside Toyota's Lexus division, Infiniti represented Nissan's ambitious leap into the luxury car segment, aimed squarely at established players like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Cadillac. The brand's flagship Q45 sedan was a radical departure from Nissan's existing lineup, featuring distinctive design choices like a grille-less front end and wood-free dashboard that challenged luxury car conventions. In 1997, Infiniti shifted its focus from performance to comfort with a redesigned Q45 that featured a smaller 4.1-liter V8 engine making 266 horsepower, dropped the active suspension option, and followed more closely in the footsteps of the segment-leading Lexus LS400. This second generation, known as the Y33, showcased new styling with an inverse curve C-pillar, a conventional grille, and full-length horizontal beltline, while offering increased rear legroom despite its shorter wheelbase. Thanks to exceptional Nissan build quality, early Q45s remain compelling even with higher mileage examples.
