11k-Mile Single-Owner 1997 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Six-Speed
Description
In 1993, the fourth-generation Pontiac Firebird launched to great excitement. Its all-new, steel-and-composite body was curvy, sharp, and futuristic all at once, with a swept back, 68-degree windshield angle and hideaway headlamps in its aerodynamic nose. The chassis wore a track-ready front short/long arm and rear torque arm suspension, which was backed up with monotube shocks, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, 16-inch wheels, and sticky tires. And the interior featured bolstered buckets in cloth or leather upholstery, a hooded instrument cluster with full analog gauges, and a host of power and convenience features.
But the biggest news? The torquey-but-low-revving Tuned Port Injection engines were gone, replaced with an evolutionary new mill called the LT1. Featuring a roller camshaft, redesigned cylinder heads, and a highly accurate Optispark ignition, the 5.7-liter LT1 still made gobs of torque but also revved past five grand, pushing an impressive 285 horses through a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic. A Road & Track test revealed, “The Firebird’s V8 accelerates with a raw, insistent urgency…0-60 in 5.8 seconds will surprise owners of more expensive and more sophisticated machinery.”
And if fast time capsules are your thing, this one-owner 1997 Firebird Trans Am has only traveled 10,957 miles since new!
