Description
The BMW M3 E36, launched in 1992, marked a significant shift in the M3 lineage with its modern design, enhanced comfort, and increased power, while still embodying the M3’s racing heritage. Although it initially seemed more refined and practical compared to the raw E30, the E36 managed to blend everyday usability with performance inspired by racing technology. The introduction of a six-cylinder in-line engine in the top model of the 3-Series provided a smooth, turbine-like performance at partial loads, while maintaining the thrilling characteristics of a racing engine. For the North American market, BMW M offered a distinct version of the M3 E36 that featured the “S50B30U” engine, which produced 243 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque. Coupled with a smooth shifting five-speed manual or automatic transmissions, these models have developed a devoted group of enthusiasts to this day, praising them as being a truly all-around sports car.
